A 23-year-old man is currently facing DUI and manslaughter charges for allegedly driving while impaired and causing a fatal collision. According to the investigators, the deadly accident occurred on U.S. Highway 98 this past Friday evening just after 9 p.m. when the young man’s SUV reportedly slammed into the back of a VW sedan.

Three of the four people in the VW sedan were reportedly injured, and a woman died from her injuries Saturday morning. At this point, investigators have not yet disclosed what the man’s reported blood alcohol content was at the time of the accident.

What investigators have disclosed, however, is that:

  • An extrication tool had to be used to by Foley Firefighters to remove some of the victims of the collision from their vehicle;
  • More details will be forthcoming, pending the conclusion of the investigation; and
  • While the man is currently facing manslaughter and DUI charges, more charges are going to be filed, as investigators noted in a press release that “other charges are pending related to other injuries from the accident.”

After DUI Accidents: Options for Justice & Financial Recovery

After serious DUI accidents like this one, victims may feel little sense of closure from the criminal justice system. What they should be aware of, however, is that they can also pursue justice in the civil court system by suing drunk or negligent drivers for hurting them.

In fact, by moving forward with a civil case, drunk driving accident survivors may be able to obtain compensation for their:

  • Injuries, past medical bills and ongoing treatment expenses
  • Lost wages
  • Property damage (i.e., the damage to their vehicle)
  • Emotional suffering.

What’s more is that it will not cost survivors anything to get their case started. While we understand that no amount of money can make up for suffering irreversible injuries or even the loss of a loved one, we also know that seeing a civil DUI car accident case through to a successful resolution can provide survivors with the financial support they need to recover.
